I would be absolutely stunned if Apple aproved a kindle iPad app. Once, Apple is in the selling ebook business, they are not going to let a someone into their walled garden to compete. Doubly so when one considers the pricing brush war of the moment and that Amazon is the most established player in the space atm. Just like they won't allow firefox on the device. Apple doesn't let 3rd parties install "duplicative" or competing software.

by-the-by I would totally buy an iPod if it supported multitasking--I would very much like to be able to listen to pandora while doing whatever. That said, I may still pick one up at some point as a around the house/coffee shop laptop replacement.

Well, there's a Kindle for iPhone right now that will likely work on the iPad unless Apple specifically disables it. Apple's track record with "competing" products is inconsistent: they approved the Rhapsody app, which is arguably in direct competition with the iTunes Music Store; they rejected the Google Voice app, for who knows what reason.

We'll have to see. Wouldn't having a Kindle for iPad make it easier for customers to "upgrade" from the Kindle to the iPad? Maybe the more likely scenario is that Amazon won't do a Kindle for iPad to discourage that from happening.

I am inclined to think that Apple rejected the google voice app because google voice replaces their visual voicemail system with google's and allows for voip calls (btw I just got google voicemail and love it). A step above even direct competition.

As for Rhapsody (and Pandora) for whatever reason Apple doesn't see streaming music as a competition to iTunes. Perhaps because Apple thinks that like the radio, it drives music sales and Pandora at least provides direct links to buy a song from iTunes (I am not sure about Rhapsody because I haven't used it in years).

However, I doubt they would allow an amazon music store app (like on android). As apple is going to be selling books, I suspect that a kindle app is far closer to the amazon music store than to Rhapsody. Dollars-to-donuts says they disable the current kindle app for iPad and if they add a bookstore app for iPhone/touch they take it off the store altogether.
