Well, I have to admit, tomorrow is a day that up until about a week ago I was really apathetic about. That of course is the release date of Bioshock 2. I think between my overall, "why would they make a sequel out of such a great game" and playing as a Big Daddy I just really almost expected this game to be average at best.
The reviews so far have really done wonders to get me genuinely excited for this game and I'm really hoping that despite its flaws it will still prove to be an engaging and satisfying experience.
What about you all? Are you nervous or excited about returning to Rapture?

I still feel a little like you felt despite the reviews. I just don't see a sequel for Bioshock working. Given the ending of the original game (I won't spoil) it just doesn't make a lick a' sense to me.
Also, as much as I loved Bioshock, it wasn't the sort of game where I left feeling like I really really wanted more of the game. It was a beautiful, moody, deep game and it was enough for me in its first incarnation. That said, I don't begrudge the sequel to those looking forward to it. Right now I just have too many great games I'm working through to care much about a sequel that isn't even made by the same team that created the first game. _________________ "That's Dr. Moron to you."

I enjoyed the original immensely but I think I'm going to hold off on the sequel for now. Seems a bit odd that they've incorporated multiplay into the game. I'm curious if will catch on. I'm going to go with Mass Effect 2 first and maybe come back to Bio2 afterwords.

I never played the first bioshock and as a result I don't really have any intention of playing the 2nd one unless it is far and above anything that we've ever seen (which I find unlikely). _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/alex-harman/

Well, you didn't play the first one, which was far and above anything that we'd ever seen at the time. So your standards may just be impossibly high. _________________ In the World: A World of Warcraft Podcast Thayala's World

You do come across as a little pretentious there, Bags: "I will only deign to play the pinnacle of gaming!"
The first Bioshock did some amazing things with the FPS genre. Sure, the story fell apart a bit at the end, but the game was a masterpiece of coherent environment and even when the story got a bit "off" it was still fun. _________________ "That's Dr. Moron to you."

Let's be honest: The ending was a train wreck. But the rest of the game was masterful. The opening sequence is, in my opinion, among the best in any media; and some of the levels were truly awesome in the attention to detail. It's a different team on Bioshock 2; I'm hoping that it turns out to be something special and not just an attempt to grab dollars in a lame sequel. I will know more tonight. _________________ In the World: A World of Warcraft Podcast Thayala's World

Correct me if I'm being an arrogant and ignorant douchebag but I don't recall saying that I didn't play the first one because it wasn't good enough. And clearly my standards can't be that high because I think that games that involve the killing of civilians in an airport are fantastic. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/alex-harman/
I await with baited breath. Wait. No. I just got Mass Effect 2. I'm dead to the world.
Finish Mass Effect 2 first.
But so far, Bioshock 2 is good. I'm playing on the Xbox, so I haven't experienced any of the PC problems I've been hearing about. But the story is engaging, and damn, those Big Daddies and Big Sisters are nervewracking. I'm using a wider variety of plasmids than I was in the first game (as I recall, I pretty much stuck with the Incinerate and Electro-Bolt--or whatever it was called--for most of the game). I'm constantly switching plasmids and weapons in Bioshock 2. _________________ In the World: A World of Warcraft Podcast Thayala's World
